Dental Crowns and Bridges with Dr. Shah

When teeth are chipped, broken, or missing entirely, it can feel so disheartening for a patient and their smile. But when you consider dental crowns or bridges, it can be easy to restore your smile and protect your damaged teeth. Crowns and bridges are two amazing solutions to restore the form and function of your smile. Discover how these are created and what they can do for your smile.

Dental Crowns

Dental crowns are individual artificial teeth that are hollow inside, and are capped over existing teeth to protect them. These crowns are made to resemble your natural teeth, from the shape of the crown to the shade of white. Dental crowns are quite common for teeth that have been irreparably damaged or recently underwent a root canal. They serve to restore the function of your smile (chewing and biting), as well as the appearance.

Dental Bridges

Dental bridges are an ideal solution for patients who have lost one or more teeth. Bridges are created through the combination of multiple crowns carved from one acrylic piece. It’s typically three crowns, with the two outer crowns being hollow and the middle one filling in the empty space. The teeth that are adjacent to the empty space are often filed down slightly in order to fit the bridge on top. Since the crowns are not crafted individually, it’s not possible to floss between them, but general brushing should do the trick to keep it clean.

What is Cosmetic Bonding?

Unlike crowns and bridges, cosmetic bonding is another option to fix minor cracks and chips in your teeth. It’s also more hands-on, and hand-crafted by Dr. Shah himself.

How it works is that Dr. Shah applies a specialized dental resin to the surface of the tooth, and then molds the resin to cover the flaws or fill in empty spaces. Once molded, the resin hardens and is polished by Dr. Shah to ensure that it blends in beautifully with your smile. Patients can’t even tell where the resin was spread, once it’s been polished.
